Wesley C. Stevens (1969-70)

Born on December 10, 1919, Wesley C. Stevens received his Bachelor’s degree from Purdue University in 1942. While pursuing his undergraduate degree, Mr. Stevens played for the Purdue football team. He went on to complete his graduate program at Case Western Reserve University. After completing his graduate degree Mr. Stevens worked as football coach at several high schools, scout for the Cleveland Browns, and the assistant football coach at Kent State University and Case Western Reserve University. In 1954 he became head football coach at Western Illinois University. Due to his success in his three-year reign as head coach Mr. Stevens was inducted into the WIU Athletic Hall of Fame in 1982.

Following his coaching career, Mr. Stevens assumed a variety of administrative positions at Western Illinois University which included Director of Admissions and Registrar for 14 years, then Assistant to the Academic Vice President, Academic Personnel Officer, and Acting Director of Personnel.

Outside of his official duties he acted as President of the Macomb Quarterback Club and as an executive member of the Leatherneck Club. Wesley Stevens retired from Western Illinois University in 1978 after twenty-four years of dedicated service. He was an avid football fan and lived for a time in the Cayman Islands.
