Guy Leonard Schuytema (1952-1953

Born in Muskegon, Michigan, Guy Schuytema went to George Williams College as a student in 1924 and earned a B.A.S. degree in 1928. He earned a Ph.B. degree in 1929 and a M.A. degree in 1940, both from the University of Chicago.

Mr. Schuytema, joined the George Williams College faculty in 1928 and continued as a member of the faculty holding the rank of Associate Professor of Education at the time of his death in 1956. While at GWC he also served as director of student personnel services, registrar, acting dean, and dean of students. Other duties included those of coordinator of the V-12 Navy training program in cooperation with the Illinois Institute of Technology from 1943-46, chairman of the Board of Admissions, chairman of the committee on Student Personnel Services, and Secretary of the Faculty.

GWC President, John R. McCudy said of Guy L. Schuytmea, "Kindness, sincerity and wholehearted devotion to Christian values were his innate qualities. He rendered devoted and sacrificial service to George Williams College and the things it represents." (b. December 24, 1901;d. January 15, 1956)

Note: George Williams College became affiliated with Aurora University in Aurora, IL in 1992 and merged with Aurora University in 2000.
