Alan M. DeRoos earned his Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees from Western Illinois University and later did postgraduate work at the University of Michigan. After completion of his Master's degree in 1976 he was hired as the Director of Registration at Western Illinois University. He became Registrar in 1980 and continues in that capacity. He stated that  the many changes he has witnessed as Registrar have been made possible through a close and productive relationship between the Registrar's office and the University Information Management Systems Office.

Alan has presented sessions at both the state and national level. While president of IACARO he was especially pleased that the organization agreed to form the Great Lakes Regional Association along with Indiana, Ohio, Michigan, and Wisconsin. He also appointed an IACRAO task force to look at the feasibility of electronic transmission of transcripts (SPEED/Edi) to better serve students.

Alan and his wife, Sue have one daughter, Alissa. Alan enjoys working on the landscaping around his yard and lake, cooking, golfing and entertaining.
