The following two students were chosen to each receive a $500.00 IACRAO Leadership and Service Scholarship. The students were chosen from applicants from across the state in attendance at community colleges. All applicants had excellent GPAs and were highly involved in their college and community. IACRAO is proud to recognize and award scholarships to students of this quality attending IACRAO affiliated institutions.
Leadership and Service Scholarship- Run Jin You
Run Jin You Run attended Illinois Valley Community College (IVCC) with a
3.88 grade point average pursuing a Business degree with the goal of becoming a Certified Public Accountant (CPA). Run is an accounting tutor and leader in the Peer Tutor Center and Project Success, member of Phi Theta Kappa and the Honors Program, Accounting Study Group Leader, Chinese Study Tutor, Economic Association. Run developed and led activities at the Greenfield Retirement House and was the mediator for various community group activities in the Princeton, IL area. She is a participant in Project Success Leadership program, the TRIO programs and Illinois Association of Educational Opportunity Program Personnel Leadership Program. Run is attending Northern Illinois University and IVCC this fall. Run says "Attitude determines altitude; the students I tutor stimulate me everyday?
I always learn something new while teaching them.."
Leadership and Service Scholarship for Underrepresented Students- Andrea C Andrada
Andrea attended Elgin Community College (ECC) with a 4.0 grade point average. Andrea was the 08-09 Student Board of Trustee and served as the Student Government Senate Chair. She participated in Spanish Club, Phi Theta Kappa, New Century Scholars, and Advocate for peers, in addition to supporting such causes as fair funding in Illinois and children with Autism. Andrea created, directed and distributed school supplies and toys in the Philippines documented on DVD, which was featured at the Illinois Community College Trustees Associations November meeting. She served on the ECC buildings and grounds committee, was the Vice-President of Spanish Club, and served as an Advocate for the AACC National Legislative Summit. Andrea is attending University of Illinois . Champaign this fall. Andrea says "This successful project brought smiles to the children who often don't have much to smile about, and the community, my school, and I feel like we have accomplished something truly wonderful.."
